Copper Box Arena came alive on Wednesday 21 October as the Better Club Games celebrated its 20th anniversary with a record-breaking day of sport, friendly competition and community spirit. The event welcomed 1,187 competitors and spectators from 23 partnerships across London and Surrey, making it the largest Club Games in the programme's history. Participants aged 60 and over competed across 11 sports and activities, including badminton, table tennis, darts and dominoes. The day brought communities together to showcase the benefits of staying active, making new connections and enjoying friendly competition.
After an exciting day of competition, Croydon were crowned this year's champions, with Waltham Forest securing second place and Greenwich finishing third.
The event also welcomed some special guests, including celebrity ambassador Cheryl Baker, Dr Hussain Al-Zubaidi representing Age UK and Commonwealth Games 3x3 basketball gold medallist Ashley Hamilton, attending alongside Team England partners.
As one of London's leading sporting and entertainment venues, Copper Box Arena provided the perfect setting for this milestone celebration. From international sporting competitions to community events, the arena continues to demonstrate its versatility in bringing people together through sport. The 20th anniversary was a fitting celebration of the Club Games programme and its continued commitment to encouraging active ageing, wellbeing and community connections.
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising and delivering the event, and congratulations to all participants who helped make this year's Better Club Games such a memorable occasion.
