GLL's 30th birthday celebrations a huge success

Our team at Copper Box Arena celebrated along with the rest of our UK partnerships and marked 30 years of GLL with lots of different activities.

Founded in 1993, GLL is now the UK’s largest public leisure and libraries co-operative and charitable social enterprise and has a clear mission to improve the physical, mental and social health of local communities.

GLL runs services under the ‘Better’ brand and is demonstrably successful in getting people more physically active – with over 50m customer visits each year to our UK wide venues.

We’ve been operating the iconic former Olympic Games venue since 2013 and have welcomed over 3,146,774 visitors since, firmly establishing itself as a premier destination for sports and entertainment in London

The ‘Box that Rocks’ put on a range of free sports hall activities including badminton, table tennis, basketball and gym taster sessions as well as 1993 themed fitness classes such as Zumba and Pilates.

It was a huge success as sessions were fully booked throughout the day with an electric atmosphere.

Stuart Hutchison, General Manager at Copper Box Arena, said: “It was a great way to celebrate GLL’s 30th birthday. It was also a brilliant opportunity to show off the work we do and the amazing facility that we operate.”

We are also hosting an open day to mark the venue’s 10th birthday on Saturday 29th July 2023.

It will be a day filled with fun and excitement for all ages and abilities with basketball, badminton and table tennis sessions. There will be a body conditioning class at 11am-12pm followed by a group cycle at 12.15pm-1pm. Zumba at 3pm-4pm and pilates at 4pm-5pm.
