This Movember, let’s work together to change the face of men’s mental health. Conversations can be lifesaving, and small actions can make a huge difference in the lives of men struggling in silence. The simple act of asking, listening, and showing up for each other can bring hope and support when it's needed most.
When you check in with a friend, follow the A.L.E.C. model – an easy way to remember how you can be there for someone who might need your support:
- A.SK - Start by asking a simple question. “How are you really doing?” shows you’re interested in more than a casual answer and opens the door to meaningful conversation.
- L.ISTEN - Listen without judgment or distraction. Let them share what’s on their mind and avoid jumping in with advice right away. Just being present can be incredibly powerful.
- E.NCOURAGE - Gently encourage action. Whether it's talking to a professional, exercising, or finding other ways to cope, remind them that taking small steps is still progress.
- C.HECK - Check in regularly. Following up shows that your support isn’t a one-time offer. Even a quick message can make a world of difference and reassure them they’re not alone.
By starting these important conversations, we can break the stigma around mental health and help save lives. For more tips, resources, and ways to get involved, visit the link below.
